The world of Skylands was destroyed, leaving only the rubble of floating islands remaining. However, by using their mystic skills, the inhabitants can reunite the fractured pieces. Using the energy of the woods, mountains, and special crystals, the Skylanders will form new islands and supply energy to their floating cities. Players control the fate of the inhabitants and seek to create their own island world. The player who utilizes the four actions of the game to their best advantage while closely watching their fellow players will win the game. A fascinating, but easy to learn tile-laying game, in which each action counts!
The goal of Skylands is to fill your Skyboard with completed islands. Once completed, you can earn victory points by sending your Skylanders where they can be most useful. There are three types of resources in Skylands: wood, ore, and crystals. Wood and ore can be used to create special tiles, either the perfect tile to complete an island, or a special tile that will give a new ability or way to score. Blue crystals can be sent to your completed cities, energizing them, and of course earning you points in the process.
If you succeed in gaining the highest number of victory points, saving the home world of Skylands, then you are the winner.
Each tile contains a piece of a city, mountain or crystal region (or a combination of more than one). You must plan where each tile can go, making sure not to block any uncompleted islands. The game forces the player to choose which is better: finishing your islands so you can use the resources, or taking the risk and expanding your islands, making your moves more efficient.
Players can take one of four possible actions each turn (done by placing their player marker on the action board). When you take an action on your turn, all players will get to do the action, but you will get an extra benefit.
The four actions are:
Discover Islands: Draft tiles randomly drawn from a facedown pile to expand your board.
Deploy Inhabitants: Move inhabitants to completed islands to harvest the three resources:
Create Islands: Use wood and ore to create tiles from the display of special tiles, which can change every game.
Convert Energy: Move crystals from your islands to completed cities to score points.
Skylands is a re-implementation of "The King of Frontier" by designers Aya and Shun Taguchi, and features all-new artwork and improved game play.
